At the Tallinn Maritime Days to be held at the end of August, visitors will have a choice to go out to sea on several different types of watercraft, from a stand-up paddle board to a historic two-mast sailing ship and a hovercraft.
"There will be dozens of different watercraft participating at this year’s Maritime Days. As usual, many of them docking at the pier will also offer rides on the sea. For instance, for the first time visitors can ride a hovercraft on the Tallinn Bay. In addition, the Estonian Navy’s minesweeper Sakala will be docking at the Seaplane Harbour," said Lauri Väinsalu, the festival’s coordinator of maritime activities.
The flagship of this year's Maritime Days will be the sailing ship Baltic Beauty that sails under the Polish flag and will be staying at the Noblessner Marina. Seaplane Harbour will be home to magnificent Estonian historical sailing ships Moonland, Hiiu Ingel and Lisette. From the opposite coast of the Gulf of Finland, they will be joined by the sailing ship Alexandra, flying the Finnish flag.
The two-mast Baltic Beauty and other ships arriving at the festival will make several trips on the Tallinn Bay, available to anyone with a fare.
"All major shows and concerts of the Maritime Days program are free for visitors, but sea rides and cruises include a fare. This is understandable as the movement of large ships at sea is not cheap, especially now, when prices are rising rapidly in almost all aspects of life," said Kristjan Saar, head of the organizing team of the Tallinn Maritime Days.
"Together with the organizers and the shipowners, we are committed to keeping the prices of the bay cruises as low as possible. The idea of Maritime Days is to introduce maritime culture to more people and avoid it becoming expensive pastime for only a selected few," added Saar.
The prices of bay cruises start from 10 euros, and the cheapest way to get a ride is with a sea taxi, which will be shuttling festival visitors for only 5 euros a ride between the Old City Harbour cruise terminal and Seaplane Harbour.
This year, the Maritime Days will also celebrate the Night of Ancient Lights, with several cruises organized in the evening of Saturday, August 27, offering visitors a great view of the bonfires lit on the coast and in the harbors.
On the final of the Maritime Days, i.e. on Sunday, August 28, a watercraft parade will be held starting at 4 p.m., heading to the cruise area of the Old City Harbour where the final concert of the festival will be held.
Tallinn Maritime Days 2022 will be held August 25 to 28 in the cruise area of the Old City Harbour, Seaplane Harbour, Noblessner Marina and Haven Kakumäe Marina.
